La Ruta Maya along Mexico's Gulf Coast and Guatemala.

The very title of this SPECIAL EVENT conjures up images of adventure, and experiencing the route of the Mayan Civilation. This is our shortest trip into Mexico and Latin America traveling along the Gulf Coast, experiencing the culture of the Mayans, and the small towns of the areas.  We also enjoy the beaches and the wonderful seafoods available on this coast.

MEXICO
On this caravan we will be on the east Gulf coast, enjoying the small beach towns.  Then, south to the Palenque Ruins, then continuing south to the frontier of Guatemala.  Mexico travel will include the famous El Tajin Ruins near Papantala, Ver., and the Zempoala Ruins, also in the state of Veracruz. 

We do a jungle river trip, on the famous Rio Tecolutla, where Bridgette Bardot, filmed the movie, “Viva Maria”, here we get our first real taste of small town hospitality.  This town sits between the river and the beach, your choice, you can be a beach bum or a fisherman!

Then south to the isthmus of Mexico, Mango Capital of Mexico, and the Pacific Beaches of Chapis State, before crossing into northern Guatemala.

GUATEMALA
The historic, natural, and cultural heritage of Guatemala may be discovered throughout the whole territory. The magic and mystery of the Mayan world subsist in the millenary cities such as Tikal, Yaxhá, Aguateca, and Quiriguá among others. The faces, the colorful regional costumes, and the kindness of the people from the highlands are like an echo of an impressive colonial past that may be heard in the churches and convents of Antigua Guatemala. Such resonance is also the contact with an exuberant nature which is the origin and destination of a unique biodiversity in the world.

We again will be visiting the smaller towns and villiages enroute, but our stay will be at our “Base Camp”, which the best campground south of the USA (maybe even better than anything north also?).. we will be staying at a hot spring resort, with 5 natural hot springs pools, a jacuzzi, vapor baths, wave pool, water slides, restaurant, snack bar, and hookups.

The Mayan civilization flourished in southern Mexico to western Honduras from 400bc to 1200ad...

Day 10-11 Isthmus of Tehuantepec - Transit
Day 12-20 Guatemala - Transit - Hot Springs Resort
Day  21-23 Mexico - Transit - Gulf Coast
Day  24-30 Slowly returning to South Texas.
